This guided tour will immerse you in the history of two magnificent Romanesque buildings constructed around the 11th century, when this site was the seat of the ancient County of Pallars Jussà.
Perched atop the hill, you'll find the imposing structure that gives its name: the Castell de Mur, offering sweeping views over the Conca de Tremp and Conca Dellà, providing exceptional vistas that allowed for absolute control of its surroundings. It was here that Ramon and Valença, Counts of Pallars Jussà, exerted their power, often challenged by the complex circumstances of their time: tensions and conflicts with Pallars Sobirà, the Muslim frontier in Montsec, and the challenges posed by the advancing County of Urgell through the conquests of Arnau Mir de Tost and Arsenda, parents of Countess Valença, which limited their territorial expansion.
Due to its architecture and state of preservation, the Castell de Mur has become the emblem of Catalan frontier castles. It stands as the best-preserved example of 11th-century Romanesque fortresses in Catalonia, declared a Cultural Heritage Site of National Interest.
